Hello fellow BIPOC adoptee,

We're getting closer to the start of the conference and my virtual session. Here is session info in case you find it helpful. I will also go over this at the start of the session.

My Movement Approach and Language: The focus on this workshop is exploration. I will guide you in movement but you may also move at your own if you prefer. During the movement part, I will ask questions for you to considerations not necessarily answer. I also ask about how body speaks to you.

So, to better illustrate what I mean, I thought I’d share some simple ways:

  • Temperature: cold, hot, humid

  • Pressure: light, hard, soft

  • Movement: fluttering, tickling, pulsing, running

  • Colours

  • Imagery

  • Sound

Reflection: We use art to reflect to give a home to exploration. Still nonverbal, but visual.

Verbal Process: Lastly, we can process the experience in words such as journaling, poetry, song, or beginning of a story.

Sharing (1-2 min): Depending on how many people attend, we either share in pairs, small groups or a big group. Sharing is not mandatory.

Prep work -Just for FUN! This is not required, but if you wish to start exploring language of the body this is for you.

  • Exercise #1: Before you eat a meal, take a moment to notice how your body feels. Where in the body is there perhaps more or less heat; is there a part of the body that feels very active or not active at all; are there any images that are coming your way? If there is a feeling of hunger or thirst, how would you describe that not using the word hunger but instead using the language above?

  • Exercise #2: Do the same exercise after you eat, what (if anything) has changed? Using the language cues above.

Always feel free to ask me questions. See you Friday!

-Anna
